STORY OF BISHOP WEARMOUTH.

The Bishop Wearmouth Stories held considerable estates in Aislaby, near Yarm, for several descents. Henry Storie died in 1591, seized of a messuage and 8 oxgangs held of the Queen, by the twentieth part of a knight's fee, leaving John Storie his grandson and heir.

In "Depositions and Ecclesiastical Proceedings," - Surtees' Soc. - Christopher Storye, of Aisleyby, yeoman, aged 26, is a witness concerning Sir George Wheitley.

In a note concerning a Curate of York and Eggiscliffe we find William Storye, of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, yeoman, aged 40. Re will of Giles Storie, of Newcastle-on-Tyne, 16th July, 1586. (p. 318 of same work.)

In the "Ecclesiastical Proceedings" of Bishop Barnes-1579, 11th December - Christopher Storye is cited for absenting himself from church (p. 128). A Robert Storie is named in regard to a visitation. (p. xx same work.)

Continuing the descents of Stories and Storeys of Bishop Wearmouth and Bingfield, Hexham, probably the following extract from records in the possession of Mr. Henry Harle Story, of Gosforth and Newcastle-on-Tyne, should be included. Afterwards the list of Story members of the Newcastle Incorporated Company of Tanners, established in 1532-3, and Story members of the Company of House Carpenters, established in 1579, kindly tabulated by Mr. Edward John Story, of Great Ilford, Essex, the well known dramatic author, reader and actor, will follow.

From "Baptisms and Burials of the Harle Family," a sheet amongst the MSS. of Mr. E. J. Story, of 206 The High Road, Ilford, Essex. In black lead is this footnote:

Robert Story=Elizabeth Harle, born September 22nd, 1733. This Elizabeth Harle was married at St. John's Church, Newcastle, 27th February 1756. She was the daughter of T. Harle, of Whelpington, Esquire.
